Virgin Editions
We are all virgins at something.
Virgin Editions is a printmaking experiment where collaborators come together to create a limited edition of Monotypes with a creative brief completely new to all the creators.
2020 Virgin Creative Briefs - A new kind of survival: survival that feels good.
1. Create post-armageddon pleasure and fun.
Let’s assume that post-armageddon life is pretty bleak. The earth is scorched beyond repair and our natural resources are completely spent. But even in the darkness and scarcity, there could be fun or pleasurable experiences. What might they be?
2. Create an homage to animals who have survived extinction.
Birds, crocodiles, alligators, horseshoe crabs and amphibians have all done it: survived extinction. Now that we are on the brink of irreparable climate disaster and human life is imperiled, let’s celebrate the natural worlds best survival success stories.
3. Design a something that becomes more attractive as it gets unwanted attention.
Relish the contradiction and explore the unwanted gaze.
4. Invent a brand new weather system.
While more extreme weather is presently underway in the form of more violent storms, extreme heat, massive floods etc, is there a weather that we have yet to conceive of? Much like we’ve dreamed up little green men who live on other planets, create a weather system no one has seen yet.
5. Try not to laugh.
6. Create a poem about “Curated Experiences”.
What is value of consumption? Consume as you expect….
7. Experience a real place on the internet.
8. Where do you go to feel big?
9. Your grandmas dreams are now your dreams.
If sleep dreams could be passed from generation to generation through your maternal DNA, what do you think you inherited?
9 Design a re-moistened desert.
So far, in the history of man, we’ve never seen land return to verdancy after it transformed into a desert. But what if the desert could be re-moistened? What would would it be like if desertification were reverse engineered?
10. Design your gravestone.
Edify your existence on a slab of stone.
10. Design a zoo where humans are on view.
With very little genetic distinction between even the most seemingly disparate culture and races of people, how would you represent humans in a zoo?
